Healing Without the High: Are Psychedelic Experiences Key to Healing? (Online) April2025
Join us for a thought-provoking discussion with Nick Jikomes, PhD, neuroscientist and host of the Mind & Matter podcast, as we explore a fundamental question in psychedelic science: Are the subjective effects of psychedelics necessary for their therapeutic benefits?
Time & Location
Apr 28, 2025, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM CDT
Via Zoom
About the event
Psychedelics like psilocybin, LSD, and ketamine induce profound alterations in perception, emotion, and cognition. But do these experiences play a direct role in healing, or could the therapeutic effects occur without them? Some researchers argue that altered states of consciousness are essential for long-term benefits, while others are investigating non-hallucinogenic analogs that may offer similar clinical outcomes.
In this session, Nick Jikomes will break down the latest research on how psychedelics work in the brain, the role of subjective experience in neuroplasticity and mental health treatment, and what emerging studies on non-hallucinogenic psychedelics might mean for the future of psychedelic-assisted therapy.
Expect an engaging talk followed by an interactive Q&A. Whether you're a researcher, clinician, practitioner, psychonaut, or simply curious, this event will challenge your assumptions about how and why psychedelics heal.
